Day Eight: It’s a lot

Wow this breakfast at the hotel thing… not a thing for me anymore apparently.

So we arrive at the University of Salford and we meet Dr. Annabelle Waller. I’m going to be completely honest, i did not read the itinerary prior very well so I had no idea what was happening today besides BBC.

Dr. Waller’s presentation was a curve ball thrown at me that I absolutely needed. (including the loud noise happening right before her presentation.. the best). It was by far one of the coolest visits, one of the coolest presentations, I loved learning about Virtual Realities. I think that’s one of those concepts that we as humans find hard to grasp fully since it’s still relatively new and can go many different ways.

I hope they use more VR in the future for documentaries because that’s something I would be into. As with anything, there are precautions and she mentioned something about kids under the age of 16 shouldn’t use it since their brains aren’t completely developed. Understandable.

We were then greeted by James Probert who works for BBC kids and with Blue Peter where they encourage kids to do crazy scary things like skydiving and other dangerous activities that I support.

We then all went to Nandos because Emma loves it and honestly, such a good lunch. We all sat outside for a bit since it was sunny out.

Then we met Hannah for our tour of the BBC. She was such a hoot! Honestly the BBC shocked me because I expected the space to be a lot bigger and it was a surprise to hear that everything from the equipment to the rooms are all rented so they don’t have to worry about anything? Insane.

But nevertheless, we got some cool facts and it was very interactive, my favorite bit was at the end when Hannah had Emma and Lexi read the teleprompter and Kaci did the weather forecast. Comedy gold.

So then we had to transfer to a new hotel and get ourselves together for our group dinner in Manchester. It was a good evening.
