Day 7: Liverpool is in My Ears and in my Eyes

Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Today was a dream come true, really. My family is really into music and I have been listening to The Beatles for longer than I can remember. Now, I am in Liverpool where music history was made!

The morning was free, so I took that time to sleep and visit a little cafe along the Albert Docks. However, I could not wait until 2:00, so I could go on The Beatles Tour!

Honestly, I felt like I was the only student who was actually excited to be there. The idea of everyone not being obsessed with The Beatles did not make sense to me at first because I grew up with them, but I guess it makes sense. They weren’t a band from our time.

On our tour, we saw the homes of a
ll four members as well as Strawberry Field, Penny Lane, the hall where Lennon and McCartney first met, and much more.

My favorite part, however, was hearing the little stories about each member. Our guide told one about Paul McCartney sitting in the graveyard outside of the church where he was a choir boy. McCartney was smoking a cigarette on a wall when he looked up at saw a tombstone with the name “Eleanor Rigby”.

Our tour ended right by The Cavern Club, so of course, I needed to go in there. I wanted to see where The Beatles first played and grab a beer. I gave my phone to my friend, Taylor, and said “please just take pictures for me as I take all this in.”

There were two stages with two different bands playing Beatles cover music on the opposite sides of the club. All I could think about was how The Beatles played in that exact location the early 60s over 200 times.

That’s all I really did today. Just exploring, The Beatles tour, and then more exploring.

Next stop: Manchester!
