Day 7: Ticket to Ride – The Beatles

Today was a nice, beautiful, easy day in Liverpool. We had the morning free so a few of us went to this restaurant called The Hub for breakfast. When we sat down we, I couldn’t wait to order a cappuccino. Naomi, Diego, and I were waiting to place our order for food because we were waiting for Lexi, Julia, and Dara to join us. I got an order of pancakes that were covered in berries, maple syrup, and whipped cream. They were so good but so filling that I barely finished the whole thing.

When we finished breakfast, we walked back to the hotel to meet the whole group for our Beatles tour around Liverpool. We bored the bus that drove us to Ringo Star’s old house first. We stopped at each member’s house around the city and where the band found inspiration for songs and lyrics. My favorite part of the tour was the graveyard by the church that John Lennon used to be a choir boy in. Our tour guide told us the story of how the song Elenor Rigby was written when John would sit on the edge of the yard smoking a cigarette and all the names in the song were on headstones in the graveyard. I also really enjoyed seeing the Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields locations because it is cool to put a place to those famous songs. The weather was perfect so I wasn’t complaining about having to walk a few times. We finished the tour at the great Cavern Club, where the Beatles played in their early years as a band.

From there, we were allowed to split up and break for lunch so a group of us found a restaurant named Tortilla. I was happy with the choice because it was exactly set up like my favorite restaurant, Moes. I got a chicken quesadilla that really hit the spot. I then broke off from the group because I wanted to do some shopping, however, when I got to the shops, they told me that they were closing in 5 minutes so I walked around a little and made my way back to the hotel where I took a short nap.

I woke up and changed so that we could go to Junkyard Golf, a crazy indoor mini golf venue. I have been wanting to go to Junkyard Golf since I found out I was coming to the UK because of their drinks and glow in the dark mini golf seem so much fun. Diego and I ended up tying for first place so I was pretty proud of that accomplishment. After, it had been a while since we all ate so we tried going to Nandos that was closed so we ended up having to get McDonald’s and bring it back to the hotel. Tomorrow we are off to Manchester for a day full of media visits!
