Day 5: Goodbye London, Hello Windsor and Stratford-Upon-Avon

Friday, May 10, 2019

London was great, but moving to the next part of my adventure was so exciting. I was pretty tired (shocker I know) from celebrating Anna’s birthday, so the bus ride was a great time for me to take a nap.

Windsor is such a charming area. It has cobblestone roads and small boutiques along the main road outside of the castle.

The best part was when our tour guide told us we were going up to the “arcade”. I was ready to see pinball and pac man, but instead it was the Windsor Royal Shopping center. It is a former train station that is now filled with boutiques and cafes. I love hearing all of these British terms that we don’t use in the states.

We had a great tour guide who showed us areas outside of the castle like a statue of Queen Victoria and the Long Walk. The walk is a straight path that links Windsor Castle with Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park. The royal carriages travel down this path every year!

Speaking of royals, I also got to see where Harry and Meghan took the picture to reveal the new royal baby and the chapel where the royal weddings happen. Looks like I need to find a way to get married in that chapel. Just gotta marry into the royal family.

We concluded our time in Windsor with lunch at the Duchess of Cambridge. We were told its the best pub in Windsor and while I haven’t actually been to any other, I think I can agree with that statement. My fish sandwich and chips were amazing.

I have had so many chips (a.k.a French fries) this trip and I’m so mad about it. These people really know how to make some fries.

When it was time to leave, I slept once more on the bus and then woke up in Stratford-Upon-Avon which has a very different vibe. The Tudor style town is also charming, but in a very different way.

We had our group dinner after we checked in to our hotel. More amazing food was served. This was in another cute pub, but it was WAY too small for all 27 of us and their regular customers. I applaud those working there for dealing with all of that.

I didn’t do much exploring in Stratford after dinner. Instead I used the downtime to do some of my work. My blog posts are so scattered because I want to do everything and I don’t leave enough time for work. It felt good to get caught up a bit.

Tomorrow is a Shakespeare tour and then we are off to Liverpool! More fun awaits.
