Day 10: I Finally Get a Scotch Egg

Today began with our final couple of media visits. First up was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We met with Oliver at the French Embassy on the Royal Mile and spoke with him at length about the history of the festival and what it takes to put on one like it. The Fringe Festival is a worldwide phenomenon that started in Edinburgh in 1947. In fact, there is even a Fringe Festival in Pittsburgh every April which I think is super interesting.

When out meeting ended, I spent some time walking around the Royal Mile and places around that area. I grabbed a really good latte and even walked past the little cafe where J.K. Rowling penned the first few chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The cafe itself was pretty busy I think I am going to try to come back again tomorrow morning close to when it opens.

Soon after, the group met up again and went to our final media visit of the trip. We walked over to a complex called WhiteSpace and spoke with their creative director and a photographer. They talked us through their creative processes and we looked at a case study that involved a type of Whiskey they went to Norway to shoot for. They spent a week in essentially the middle of nowhere with this brand and shared some great advice with us.

After we broke up from that talk, everyone was free for the evening and until the late afternoon tomorrow. Honestly, I went back to the room and took a nice nap. When I woke up, Kayla and I ventured out to grab some dinner. I am a huge fan of scotch eggs so I was really looking forward to trying authentic ones and the place we stopped at, Bertie’s, did not disappoint. I also had some fish n’ chips, for probably the 20th time this trip, and everything was amazing.

I am looking forward to having a free day tomorrow but am sad that it means I am leaving the city in only a few short days.
