More magic was made today along with many photos. The day started off at two lectures. One lecture was with David Anderson. David is a Scottish commercial photographer who mainly works with portraiture. However, he did not talk about his portraiture. He focused on an alcohol project he did for Shackleton. His photography is aesthetically my style, so I wish I saw more of his fashion type work.
During the lecture, David gave a lot of helpful information or insight into the life of a commercial photographer. In my classes, everything is strictly fine art which doesn’t help me at all. My classes focus mainly on film photography which both David and the guy from Whitespace admitted no one does. It was nice to see how David works with clients and how people hire him. I was not informed of what briefs are until today. Briefs are what agencies send to photographers for a project to see if they meet the requirements. I also saw how much creative freedom photographers may have when working with clients. I was scared going into commercial that clients would be strict and only want photographers to just press a button. After Hearst, I thought styling and having creative freedom would be very limited to photographers.
When the lecture was over, I got to focus on my own photography. I got to finally go to a museum. The museum I went to was called Camera Obscura which was full of illusions. If you are aware of what a camera obscure then the museum would make a lot of sense to you. Camera obscuras are the beginning of photography or creating mirrored images. The museum has it’s own obscura in a dark room where you can see a 360 degree view of Edinburgh.
The museum had many other cool features like interactive projects, 3D hologram photos, and several magic rooms. There was six floors of fun. There were different attracts that let you switch body parts with someone beside you. There were lot of infinity glass rooms that viewers can look into and it looked like they went on forever. The stairs even played music with each step like a piano. The two most popular rooms were the Mirror room and infinity room. They were filled with colorful lights and were set up like a maze. My friends and I had a lot of fun taking pictures and laughing at all the crazy rooms. It was definitely worth the money.
