High Tech in MediaCity

Today’s schedule was a blast from the past. While I am a photographer and not a media or film major, going to MediaCity UK brought back many memories to me. In high school, I was part of the theatre crew where I worked with the lighting and sounds boards.

The first place we went to was the University of Salford where we saw their broadcasting studios. When I saw their lighting and audio board, my mouth dropped. It was so much bigger than what I am used to. Everyone in the crew as their own role. In high school, I had to manage more than one task. I also enjoyed looking at all the open space the studios/stages were. They also had a lot of lighting equipment that shocked me. I would love to work in a studio space like the ones they had at the university.

MediaCity UK is not only the university but also parts of BBC. They are connected by a beautiful outdoor space that contains several restaurants and a yard with foldable cheers to relax in. It was another beautiful day, so my friends and I eat outside at this place called Dock Yard. The onion rings were really good.

After eating, we headed to BBC for a tour. I never wanted to leave the tour. I got to see several places where they film show for BBC Sport and the Breakfast room. My class also saw the BBC Radio rooms where some of my favorite artists have visited. The tour gave me more appreciation to the broadcasting side of Media which usually terrifies me. I also believe the tour was more enjoyable because of our tour guides who made it entertaining.
