We had a little free time this morning. Jan and I walked by the water’s edge near the hotel.
There was a chain barrier featuring thousands of locks. It ran all along the area.
Jan and I had a quick look at the Museum of Liverpool. There was a special exhibit on about the music, art and lives of John & Yoko.
The exhibit featured many different things. Jan and I even got to sing a little karaoke.
On our way out, there was a children’s choir performing. There music was beautiful. It was a very talented group.
The main tour today was the long awaited Beatles tour. Helen has been looking forward to this for most of her life I think!
We saw the childhood homes of all four Beatles, the place where John and Paul met as well as inspirations to their songs.
We visited Ringo & George’s houses first… they both lived relatively close to one another and had no indoor plumbing as kids!
We saw the Penny Lane sign (and where Paul signed when he was doing car pool karaoke with James Cordin) and the barbershop where they got their haircut as kids (but not their famous Beatles cuts).
We arrived at a cemetery and church. The guide mentioned John was a choir boy there. He then sat Helen on the same wall in the cemetery where John sat (while he was supposed to be at choir practice) and asked her what she saw.
From that perspective, we could see several graves that inspired various songs. There was a tomb stone that said Eleanor Rigby and all the lonely people were the surrounding graves.
We saw the construction site of Strawberry Fields… it was once an orphanage and John Lennon spent time hanging out with the kids there. It’s under renovation and will become an adult facility for people with various disabilities.
We then went to John’s house. We first saw the spot where John’s mother was hit by a car (driven by a drunk off duty officer).
We wrapped with Paul’s home. The final stop was the Cavern Club where the Beatles paid 292 times. It was Mother’s Day so us grownups decided to pay the admission and enjoy the live music. It was a fun wrap to the day.
