Day Seven: Here Comes the Sun

Today’s adventures thankfully began a little later than normal. We had a free morning and so I happily slept in until 9 a.m. After this I went to a cute little breakfast spot next to our hotel. This was one of the best meals I have had so far this trip consisting of the best caramel latte I’ve ever had and some really cute pancakes.

After this, I spent a little bit of time wandering around the area surrounding the hotel called the Royal Albert Docks. The easiest way to describe this is as something similar to the South Side Works if it was along a prettier river.

The area seemed to be a little bit of a hike from downtown Liverpool, but that was okay with me. Liverpool was playing in a very large soccer match today and I am sure it would have been crazy if they had lost (luckily they won 2-0).

A little bit later, I met up with the class group to go on a bus/walking tour of Liverpool centered on the Beatles. I was really excited for this tour as I have grown up around the Beatles. In fact, I remember driving around with the top off in my dad’s car during the summer listening to When I’m 64 at like age five. I love the Beatles so this tour was definitely a highlight for me.

We stopped at the childhood homes of all four members along with going down Penny Lane and seeing some of its sights. We also stopped by Strawberry Field, the cemetery that hold Eleanor Rigby’s grave, the rec room where John Lennon and Paul McCartney met and the Cavern Club where they played over 200 times. Overall this tour was worth the three hours it took and was super interesting and full of history.

Post-tour, I spent a little bit of time shopping around in Liverpool including stopping into Primark and picking up a few things. After this, I went back to the hotel to hang out for a little bit before heading out for the evening.

During the evening, we walked down the docks by the river and saw a really beautiful view at sundown. After this we went to dinner at the place near our hotel and then went back to our room for the evening.

Now I am preparing to head out to Manchester in the morning and start the next adventure.
