Day Five: Learning the Royal Way of Life

With an early wake-up call today, we found ourselves leaving London and onto another adventure in a new, royal part of London – Windsor. Windsor is located 25 miles away from London. The most famous attraction in the town of Windsor is, of course, the Windsor Castle.

Our tour guide, Simon, gave us an overview of the landscape of Windsor Castle which has 5,000 acres of land attached to it. He informed us that Windsor Castle is Her Majesty’s favorite home. Luckily for us, the royal standard was flying on top of the Round Tower signifying that the Queen was in residence.

With our admission ticket, we were given access to see the State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel. These two specific parts within the castle are highly recognizable. Most recently, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in St. George’s Chapel. They also just took photos of them with Baby Archie in St. George’s Hall within the State Apartments.

One of the most interesting parts of the State Apartments was in the end, you exit by a gate that is across from the Queen’s private apartments. I found it extremely intriguing to find out that the State Apartments are connected to the private apartments of the Queen.

Inside St. George’s Chapel, I lived my fantasy of being in attendance at the royal wedding of Harry and Meghan by standing near the altar. I also got to see the burial location of two of the most influential monarchs in modern history, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Following the promenade around Windsor Castle feeling #royal for a day and pretending that was our own private castle, we found ourselves at a quaint little pub named after Catherine Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge. After eating one of the most delicious ham and swiss cheese sandwiches of my life, we found ourselves on the bus yet again.

After arriving in the small, picturesque town of Stratford-upon-Avon about two hours later, we checked into our hotel for the night before departing for our group dinner. This town is so quaint and I’m excited to explore Shakespeare’s Birthplace tomorrow before heading off to Liverpool for the weekend.
