London Day 4 – Simba’s Pride

Today is the day I have been waiting for. Today we are visiting Hearst UK, a very successful magazine publishing company. They publish big names like ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Red, and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as 19 other brands. We toured the building, led by COO and CFO Clair Blunt. After our tour, we had a panel with a few employees, including the fashion editors of Cosmopolitan and Elle. I asked some questions about publishing your own magazine, and they were very encouraging and supportive and gave me some great advice.

After our tour of the House of Hearst, we took a quick walk on over to the Good Housekeeping Institute. We saw where they test different recipes, products, appliances, etc for their reviews. They had everything from pressure cookers to  2-in-1 washer and dryers, mascaras to hair products. Basically, you name it, they most likely had it. It was really interesting to learn about the process behind the reviews and what they do with their information once they find it.

After our wonderful time with Hearst, I was able to find time to see Freddie’s house. It was a really special moment for me, and it meant a lot that my friends went out of their way with me just so I could stand outside of his home for a few minutes. My friends and I headed to Oxford street and saw some really cool artwork, tried some delicious food, and had a wonderful time.

Tonight at midnight my new friend Anna turns 21. While 21 isn’t a huge deal over here, it is back home, and god damn it, we were going to celebrate like we would at home. I am so happy to have made such great new friends because of this trip, and I can’t wait to see what adventures tonight has in store, as well as the rest of this trip.

Tomorrow, we head to Windsor for a bit, and then off to Stratford. Can you keep up?
