Day 2: Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen

Today was an exciting one because it was our first media visit of the trip at Regents University. To get there, we had to take the Underground/tube, which was an experience all on its own. I enjoyed the trip because then I was able to get around on it later on my own. After the tube, we took the scenic route through a park to the university. We met with Jason Mackenzie, who then gave us a lecture on the overall media landscape of the United Kingdom.

It all started with a quiz to see how much we knew about the UK. Then, he opened it up to a discussion about our media habits. I was one of the student ambassadors and I was happy that I got to talk to him about the difference between citizen journalism and the production of some advertisements. Later at lunch, I talked with Jason about the world of video production in the UK and he mentioned that it is a remarkable skill in the UK to be able to write, shoot, and edit everything as a sort of a one-man band. He had a lot of interesting things to say about the overall media world and how so many ways of producing content and media are changing.

When we broke after lunch, a few of us decided to go back to the hotel to change. After that, I went shopping at Primark right by our hotel and found a lot of great, cheap things. I spent probably a good hour and a half in there. I had time so I took a walk to the SOHO of London to go to the store Drop Dead that I have been wanting to go to. It was a really cool store and I ended up getting a really nice hoodie on sale. I saw that there was a Joe and the Juice right by it and I couldn’t resist but to get a kiwi, strawberry, and apple juice along with an iced latte.

I came back to the hotel to meet up with my roommate, Lexi and we soon left for the London Eye. We took the tube to the Waterloo station and walked to the eye since it was such a nice day. I was really glad we had that experience because I don’t think I would have taken the time to do it on my own. We took a lot of great photos (that I will be posting later) and the sights were all so beautiful. It was crazy to see how everything goes on for miles and miles compared to Pittsburgh. When we got done with the eye we met up with another group of us that was at a festival venue in the park to hang out. It was a nice and easy evening to relax and unwind from all the traveling because tomorrow we are up and early for a busy day of media visits!
