First Day & No Sleep

The last thirty-six hours have been nothing but hectic, but that’s what I get for packing last minute and not sleeping on the flight. I figured I would have some time to rest. I was wrong. The first day has already been overwhelming eventful. I have already done most of the typical London tourist attractions. I just wished I was less tired and spent more time able to enjoy the places more.

First, we took a bus tour around London. I saw so many places that I’ve seen in movies, but everything was either under construction or too fast to fully see all the amazing architecture or information about them. However, we did stop at Buckingham Palace. It was a nice cloudy day and the streets were not busy at all. I enjoyed seeing the fountain and gold details that surround the palace. My favorite part of today was going to the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels.

Most of my school projects fall under the idea of royalty and require lots of shiny objects. Seeing the Crown Jewels sparkle in person took my breath away. Each crown was similar to the next but different at the same time. Prince Frederick wasn’t into diamonds or jewels as much as the Queens, but it was still elaborate. I understand why pictures are not allowed, but I wish I could remember the details of all the jewels more.

The Tower of London also had other historical parts besides the Jewels. They had a Raven sanctuary where the ravens seemed free. They would just lay in the grass or fly up above us. I feel like animals in the United States don’t have as much freedom as them. There was also a section inside the Tower dedicated to the “Beasts” or animals. They had monkey statues all around the Tower which I thought helped that section. There was a section where visitors could see the old prison cells. Although those sections seemed interesting, nothing will compare to the Crown Jewels.

After the Tower of London, we finally got to check into our hotel. The hotel seemed very nice from the lobby. The rooms were a bit small and mine was extremely hot for being on the fourth floor. We struggled to get the lights to work since the room key turned them on, but we figured it out.

While the beginning of the day started a little rough, the jet lag never fully hit and I got to end the night wandering the city with some new friends. I also tried fish and chips which is shocking if you know how much of a picky eater I am. My new friends, and I did not want our night to end after dinner. It was our first night in London and our excitement got the best of us. We walked around until we found a place called the Flight Club. It was a carnival themed dart place. While they were closing early, they still let us go in and have a drink. I wish I could have played darts, but I knew London had more to offer. I can’t wait to see what another London day brings.
