Day 7: Alexa, play “Eleanor Rigby”

Alexa, play “Eleanor Rigby” by The Beatles.

It’s Mother’s Day and I’ve only seen my mum once, maybe twice, in the last five months, so I’m missing her today – but I am certainly sending my love from the United Kingdom to the United States. <3

Back on track – it was relaxing to have a free morning and not feel rushed when getting ready for a day. Instead of eating a hotel breakfast buffet, I ate with Julia, Diego, Emma, Naomi and Lexi at The Hub, a restaurant about a half a mile away from our hotel. The French toast was quite yummy with berries and fruity syrup with two strips of bacon (well, ham in the UK apparently) on top.

After a late breakfast, we embarked on a three-hour Beatles guided tour. We took a bus to the homes of each of the members, Strawberry Field and other significant locations of their experiences.

Our guide explained where specific lyrics from The Beatles’ songs originated from, and it was super interesting to hear the backstory of some of their lyrics and be in the environment they were in during The Beatles’ prime. As an avid music lover and someone who appreciates meaningful lyricism, I found much of the tour fascinating.

After the tour, we were free for the rest of the night, so Emma, Lexi, Naomi, Mya, Diego and I went to play mini golf at Junkyard Golf. It was Emma’s idea, a great one at that, because her favorite band has been there, and she’s wanted to go ever since.

The course was set up like a scrapyard with neon and black lights, and it reminded me of a glow in the dark mini gold course from my hometown in our mall – which is absolute rubbish compared to Junkyard.
