Liverpool Day 2 – The Legend Continues

Today we went on a Beatles Tour, which I (along with Helen Fallon) have been looking forward to for months! I grew up listening to and loving the Beatles. My love for their music was something my dad and I shared. If I am being completely honest with you all, each of the Beatles records in my vinyl collection were 100% stolen from my father. Hopefully, my kids will be influenced enough by their music to steal those same records from me someday.

During our tour, we got to see a bunch of places that are important parts of Beatles history, such as the childhood homes of some of the members, as well as the iconic Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane.

Seeing Strawberry Fields was really emotional for me. While I am not a huge fan of John Lennon, the song “Strawberry Fields Forever,” (which he wrote about his childhood memories in the gardens at the Salvation Army Children’s Home, Strawberry Fields) means a lot to me. It has gotten me through some extremely difficult times, especially over the course of the past few years. Seeing the inspiration behind that song was really moving, and it made my heart very, very happy.

We have the rest of the day free, so I am hoping to do some more exploring through Liverpool, as well as rest up for the days ahead of us. Earlier I heard someone describe this city as “The Ohio of England,” and I do not think I have ever heard something described in more accurate words.

Tomorrow we head off to Manchester to tour the University of Salford and the BBC!
