For most of this trip, the coach buses we’ve had were exactly what you’d expect. Today, however, the coach bus that was ordered to take us to the airport definitely outshined the others. We arrived in style to the Manchester Airport in a huge, luxury coach bus. Unfortunately for us, our trip in the luxurious bus ended shortly after we boarded.
After the shortest flight I’ve ever taken (45 minutes, at most), we found ourselves in another part of the land: Scotland. Now I’m not saying that we brought the good weather… but the weather is typically way colder here, apparently.
Nonetheless, we checked into the hotel I was most excited for. On the outside, it looks old and historic, but inside it’s modern and decorated uniquely with a map on Edinburgh on the walls. With a little bit of relaxation time after check-in, our first destination was the Edinburgh Castle.
This castle sits on top of a huge hill that’s connected to a stretch of road famously known as the Royal Mile. Having only ever been to one castle beforehand (Windsor), this castle was similar yet so different to the Edinburgh Castle.
The Edinburgh Castle was just extremely picturesque. Walking around just felt as if you were immersed in a dream. Also, I can’t stress enough how many times I had “Castle” by Halsey stuck in my head walking through.
We were given a short amount of time to explore the castle before we met our tour guide, Alan, for the Royal Mile tour. If you wanted history (and then some) of Edinburgh, Alan was the person to go to. He gave us so many interesting tidbits of history of this city. He also told us one of my new favorite words — doddling.
One of my favorite facts that Alan told us was in Edinburgh during the summer, it doesn’t get super dark. As I’m typing this at 10:29 p.m., there’s still a bit of blue peeking out from the sky.
This place is something out of a dream. I’m sitting here in this place not convinced this place is real. Pinch me I think I’m dreaming?
