Shakespeare’s Stratford

This morning I had to say goodbye to my lovely hotel room and head through the streets of Stratford Upon Avon. The agenda for to this morning was to see everything Shakespeare before heading on a bus to Liverpool.

I have seen many different places related to him and people in his life. We started off walking towards the Holy Trinity Church where he and his wife Anne Hathaway are buried. The walk towards the church was filled with lots of greenery, swans, and dogs. We walked alongside a river and into the lush graveyard outside the church. Our tour guide Victoria gave us lots of information on conspiracies about Shakespeare and how is head is apparently missing from his gravestone.

Victoria was a very informative tour guide even though I learned most things about Shakespeare in high school. I had the same English teacher for several years who loved Shakespeare, so it was nice to connect the dots to what she was saying.

After the Holy Trinity Church, we added all around Stratford where there are a lot of little shops and cafes. We saw where Shakespeare probably went to school and the taverns where he wrote some of his famous pieces of work. The class even stopped near the home of his son in law John Hall. Jon Hall’s house was gated but surrounded by pretty flowers. There were also pretty flowers in the garden where New Place would have been if it didn’t get burned down.

Then we ended our tour at Shakespeare’s birthplace where it gave a wonderful introduction video of Shakespeare. Then, I had to walk through the house he was born in. It was interesting to see that pilgrims would etch their name into the glass windows. The Shakespeare tour was visually pleasing and a peaceful stroll. I was scared it would be another boring history lesson that I heard plenty of times in high school.
