From to Student to Wizard

Day two of London took a fun turn. The morning started off with the class going to Regent’s University where we had a lecture with Jason Mackenzie. The lecture was not a long and boring American lecture that I am used to. He was quite entertaining to listen to while getting my fellow peers involved in his lecture. My class got so involved that our lecture went a bit overwhelmed. Jason was definitely an interesting insight to the media of the United Kingdom, and I was glad that I focused on his lecture.

Another nice part of going to Regent’s for the lecture was the school itself. It was completely different than Point Park. The university is located in the center of a beautiful park where birds like swans are swimming peacefully in the lake. The school is gated inside the park and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and architecture. The building was a lot more open and peaceful compared to Point Park’s crammed school rooms in the heart of Pittsburgh. After visiting Regent’s I definitely would not mind visiting again.

After the school lecture, it was a free day which meant exploring for me. I went back to the hotel to get ready for my first official first night. I never enjoyed being a typical tourist. I enjoy exploring cities and finding places on my own. My friends and I went to Primark which we have heard so much about, and I finally got to eat at Nandos. I have waited since 7th grade to eat there, and it was worth it. Then we headed to the London Eye which gave a breath taking few of London before the sun went down. Then it was time to become a wizard.

One key part of visiting London was for me to do something Harry Potter related. I admit I am not the biggest fan of the series, but I do love magic. Month’s ago I found this place on Facebook where I could be a wizard and mix drinks or “potions” that I knew I had to try. A group of us went far from our hotel to have this wizard experience which was great. We got to have three different potions while dressing as wizards with our robes and wands. The whole time that we were creating potions was nothing but laughs. Kari, Casey and I messed up the first potion because we forgot an ingredient. Some potions would smoke and others needed to be caught on fire. The potions were very good as well, and we even made friends with the official wizards/workers. The experience was definitely worth the decent drive to it.
